Fund pathway highlights in year one

New Investment

In its first year, Pathway One New Investment supported nine initiatives, with up to $68 million allocated across Demonstration initiatives and Round One initiatives. Round Two opened in February 2026, with up to $88 million available for as many as 12 more initiatives. Once contracts are signed, the Fund is expected to have more than 20 new initiatives in its investment portfolio.

Contract Consolidation

Under Pathway Two Contract Consolidation we simplified funding arrangements by bringing together more than $21 million in annual funding across around 50 contracts and 76 services into 12 integrated agreements, across seven government agencies.

Community-led Commissioning

Pathway Three Community-led Commissioning opened in May 2026. From the 49 expressions of interest received, three local groups were selected to partner with the Fund to design community-led commissioning arrangements. This discovery and design phase continues through to early 2027.

Social Investment Fund Annual Fund Update 2025-26

The first annual update of the Social Investment Fund(external link) (the Fund) summarises some of the highlights and lessons learned during its foundational year.

Over the next four years, the Fund is expected to invest more than $300 million. Through several investment pathways, it will work with organisations, communities, iwi partners, government agencies and individuals to tackle persistent social challenges and support thousands of children, young people and families.

The Fund aims to improve people’s lives and help children and families thrive. By investing earlier and in approaches that work, it aims to build resilience, reduce the need for crisis and intervention services, and save the government tens of millions of dollars in future costs.

The Fund has also developed and tested the foundations needed to support the social investment approach. These include the right skills, tools and technology, alongside strong governance, partnerships, data and evaluation standards. Together, these foundations are designed to support smarter investment of billions of dollars in public and private funding in the future.
